Project Introduction
Upgrading to three lanes (per carriageway) for the stretch of A14 highway between the Bologna San Lazzaro junction and Ravenna Junction, including 27 km of widening and more than 7 km of improvement to “Dynamic Lane”. In this context Spea provided several road safety studies, including the following:

•Road Safety Technical Specifications focused on the user-oriented design approach;
•Road Safety Inspection on the current highway focused on the pavement condition;
•Review in terms of visibility analysis and speed range
•Road Safety Detailed Design (restrain systems, signs, road markings, lighting), including FEA (Finite Element Analysis);
•Road Accident Analysis based on available accidents data over the  last years;
•Preliminary Road Safety Audit on all project topics aimed to reach the Road Authority’s endorsement, as required by the Italian legislative decree no. 35/2011  that acknowledged the European Directive 2008/96/CE “on road infrastructure safety management & EuRSI project”;
•Analysis of the relationship between speed management and level of services;
•Design of the “3rd dynamic Lane” System.
