Project Introduction
The new highway system around Milan consists of a new highway located in the east quadrant of suburban area.
The project, called “Tangenziale Est Esterna di Milano”, foresees the construction of a new carriageway, along an agricultural land and interconnects A4 highway (north) to A1 highway (south).

The project mainly consists in:

  • 32 km of new carriageway (three lanes in each direction + emergency lane):
    • n. 3 highway interconnections
    • n. 6 payment intersections
    • 1.2 km of tunnels
    • 1.9 km of viaducts
    • 7.3 km embankment
  • 38 km new local roads
  • 15 km strengthening local roads
  • 30 km bicycle path
  • 8 specific environmental compensation plans
