Milan: eastern external bypass (T.E.E.M.) – Road Safety

The new highway system around Milan consists of a new highway located in the east quadrant of suburban area. The project, called “Tangenziale Est Esterna di Milano”, concerns the construction of a new carriageway, along an agricultural land and interconnects A4 highway (north) to A1 highway (south).

Project Introduction
The new highway system around Milan consists of a new highway located in the east quadrant of suburban area. The project, called “Tangenziale Est Esterna di Milano”, concerns the construction of a new carriageway, along an agricultural land and interconnects A4 highway (north) to A1 highway (south).

In this context SPEA has provided several road safety studies, including the following:

•Road Safety Technical Specifications focused on the user-oriented design approach;
•Road Safety Inspection on the current highway focused on the pavement condition;
•Review in terms of visibility analysis and speed range
•Road Safety Detailed Design (restrain systems, signs, road markings, lighting), including FEA (Finite Element Analysis) ;
•Road Accident Analysis based on available accidents data over the  last years;
•Local roads  strengthening  with regards to safety levels ensured;
•Realization of new bicycle path (30 km).
