Project Introduction
Spea is developing the “Bretella di Piombino” project to allow a  steady improvement of the traffic flow from the A12 highway (junction of Venturina-Piombino) to the town of Piombino, to its industrial area and to its port. Currently the access to these areas is very difficult, due to an inefficient local roads system and to a large amount of heavy vehicles and tourists, especially in summer time (from the port of Piombino there are ferries departing to Elba island/Sardinia and container ships). In addition, an extension of the port is foreseen for next years, in order to make Piombino the second largest port in Italy in terms of tons in transit.

The project foresees the extension of  the SS 398 road to the port of Piombino. The new road consists of two separate carriageways  with 2 lanes  each (L = 3,25m)

The project involves  4 viaducts :

  • “Via della Geodetica” viaduct ,total lenght 177,2 m
  • New viaduct at km 1+422, total lenght 292,2 m
  • “Cornia Vecchia” viaduct, total lenght 95,2 m
  • New viaduct at km 0+289, total lenght 84,2 m
