Project Introduction

The works consisted in the widening from 3 to 4 lanes plus the emergency lane of 32 km between Modena Nord and Bologna, where high traffic levels reach daily peaks of up to a 150.000 vehicles, 43.000 of which are trucks and coaches. The section is a junction between the two main routes connecting northern (A1 and A22) and southern Italy (A1 and A14).

The project focused on the connection of different types of highway section: road infrastructures crossed by HDV, LDV and light traffic vehicles, undertaking long and medium distance journeys, coming from north throughout A1 and A22 motorways and from south, throughout A1, A13 and A14 motorways.

The highway section (total length: 31,592 km) crosses 5 municipalities in the Province of Modena and Bologna, characterized by a well irrigated and cultivated land and by the presence of industrial and urban areas.
Works include n. 39 overpasses and  n.139 civil constructions, as well as acoustic insulation barriers and environmental impact mitigation installations.
