The widening of Tiranë – Durrës, planned in 1990 in compliance with Italian CNR standard.

Tiranë – Durrës highway connects the 2 greatest centers of the country: Tiranë, the capital of Albania, with Durrës’ harbor, the greatest port of Albania, and also touristic places of Durrës, in particular Durrës – Golem – Mali i Robit seafront. From this point of view the highway is the busiest of the Country, during the summer, most of all last years after the construction of the new connection between Kukes and Kosovo, and other regions. This constant traffic growth makes necessary the widening study of Tiranë – Durrës to obtain all parameters required for the traffic increasing. But this isn’t the only problem. Over time in this section the pavement layers have been damaged, for a considerable length of both carriageways and lanes of Vore- Durrës.

The widening project of Tiranë – Durrës includes also the following objects:

  • Economic development now and in the future of the entirely area crossed by the highway
  • The possible touristic growth
  • Environmental Impact Assessment Study
  • The necessary evaluations concern the parameters of expansion of the traffic during the execution of the works.
  • Wastewater arrangements in the first part of Tirana – Kashar to Vore, since this is an entirely industrial area with secondary roads from both sides. It will be developed the study and the prospective of a separate sewer system.
  • The opportunity of a connection with secondary roads of Vore – Durres. In any case, the connection between these secondary roads with the main road it will be made only through intersections. It’s important to underline that on both sides of the section Vore – Durres are settled several industrial buildings.
